MORE ABOUT ASID
"Design with a Conscience"
In helping to build this Showhouse tradition we have been able to assist and support non-profit groups as we give back to our community. The theme for this year's 2008 Designer Showhouse is a reflection of our commitment to making this project both environmentally and community conscious. Not only does the project benefit the community but also is an opportunity to educate the public on how to incorporate current design trends into a tasteful, enduring environment.
Why Hire an ASID Designer?
It's your home, your ideas, your lifestyle.
Our job is to understand.
Interior spaces can look many different ways, but how they work is more important. For example, your home's interior must not only look great, but its design must support the way you want to live. Designing spaces that meet and satisfy your needs requires understanding both current and future uses.
ASID interior design consultants are trained to deal with more than the furnishings and finishes that go into a space and make it look wonderful. They use an analytical problem-solving approach that focuses on your needs and aspirations. This approach is based on listening, understanding and ultimately creating a space that exceeds your expectations.
Designing your home is a process- to some it's exciting, to others it's intimidating. An ASID interior design consultant can help you manage that process - taking on as much or as little responsibility as you like.
The choice is yours. We act as a consultant to ensure you get what you want and need. We'll help you examine your options, create a roadmap, manage the process or anything in between - purchasing, ordering, managing contractors and overseeing budgets. Interior design consultants are trained to see the big picture and to help you balance your aspirations, functional needs and budget.
To find a designer who will listen and understand your wants and needs, visit the Nebraska/Iowa Chapters ASID website at www.asid-neia.org, call the ASID Worldwide Referral Service at 800-775-ASID or visit the ASID national website at www.asid.org.

FAQs
Frequently asked Questions about the Designer Showhouse
- WHAT EXACTLY IS The 2008 Designer Showhouse? The Showhouse is a collaboration between metroMAGAZINE and ASID which creates an opportunity to benefit local charities while affording selected ASID member interior designers to display their talents. The project is intended to raise funds for three different selected charities as well as to provide them with numerous promotional opportunities during the course of the Showhouse exhibition.
- HOW DOES The Showhouse benefit charities? In several ways. The charities are each designated with a week to promote themselves and create more awareness during the Designer Showhouse. During their week, each organization provides volunteers to help staff the Showhouse when it is open to the public. The organizations are paid for every hour of volunteer work put in by their staff member volunteers. In addition, the organizations will benefit form the 2008 Designer Showhouse Raffle as well as a percentage of the receipts from the Opening Night Gala. The Showhouse's commitment to supporting these charities is another way of keeping in tune with this year's theme of "Design with a Conscience".
- HOW DO THE DESIGNERS contribute and benefit the Showhouse?
Designer Contributions: Designers make a significant contribution to the project in terms of the amount of time, labor and expense that is poured into each room design. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of resources are contributed by the combined design teams by the time the Showhouse is complete.
Designer Benefits: Each Design Team is carefully chosen by the Showhouse Design Committee from an established set of prerequisites. It is a sought after honor and privilege to be chosen as a member of the Showhouse Design Team. The Showhouse provides a unique opportunity for each design team to display their talents and their grasp of the latest trends and innovations in interior design as well as a way to meet and interact with the public during the exhibition period.
- HOW DO THE HOMEOWNERS contribute and benefit from the Showhouse?
The homeowners make a huge contribution to the project, first by consenting to open their home to the public during the exhibition period, as well as by coordinating and cooperating with the Design Teams as they make decisions about how to decorate and refurbish each area. This involves a significant investment of time and energy. In addition, the homeowners must vacate their home and make arrangements to live elsewhere for about six to nine months while their home interior and grounds are massively redesigned! In this way the homeowners are making a very meaningful contribution by literally opening their home and adjusting their lives to benefit both the ASID Design members and the supported Beneficiaries.
The benefits derived are the obvious upgrade in their family dwelling once the exhibit is closed. At this point in the process the homeowners choose which portions need to be removed and restored. There are additional benefits of public exposure and the appreciation of the public, the beneficiaries and the Showhouse presenters.
- Is this a NEW HOME constructed for display? No. This is not a new home built from scratch. The Designer Showhouse is a unique approach that involves an EXISTING home and the efforts of talented professionals to temporarily REDESIGN it. The homeowners decide which improvements they wish to keep or decline. The ultimate goal of this project is to support charity while displaying the talents of these design professionals, and the generosity of the homeowners and those supporting the project.
